Bench Bolt

Privacy Policy

What Bench Bolt collects when you send a workshop story, how that text is stored, and how to ask us to remove it.

What the contact form collects

The only form on this site sits on the contact page. It asks for your name, your email address, the town your workshop is based in, the kind of piece you are sending, the story itself, and whether you can supply bench or tool photos if an editor asks.

Alongside those fields, the handler records the submission time, the form identifier, the page language and the source query string from the link you arrived on. That is the full extent of it.

Where submissions are kept

Submitted text is written to a local log file at /private/submissions.jsonl on the server that runs this site. It stays there for editorial review.

There is no automatic deletion schedule. Entries remain until the site owner removes the log by hand. No email service, customer database, payment processor or analytics platform receives your submission.

What this site does not do

There are no accounts, logins, comments, subscriptions, orders, payments or file uploads here. Nothing on the site tracks you across other websites, and no profile is built from your visit.

Sending a story does not guarantee it will be published, and it does not create any obligation on either side.

Your rights over your submission

You can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected, receive a copy in a portable format, or have it deleted. You can also withdraw consent for us to keep it at any time.

Readers in the EU and California have specific statutory rights to access, deletion, correction and portability, and to opt out of any sharing. We do not share submission data, so there is nothing to opt out of beyond withdrawal of consent.

Privacy requests and contact

Send any access, correction or deletion request to the address below and it will be handled by the site owner. Bench Bolt is based at The Firs, 32A Cradock Avenue, Rosebank, Johannesburg, 2196, South Africa. This is a contact and postal address.

Editorial honesty

Bench Bolt publishes tested methods from people who make and fix things by hand. We do not run get-rich stories, invented endorsements, fake urgency or claims of official affiliation with any brand or body. Nothing here promises a result that has not been demonstrated.
